Some of my story
For a long time I left things unsaid about what I've experiencedin the care of NJ as a ward. The number of abuses I experienced are numerous, and difficult to hear and read, even this late they bother me but I'm working through them...they include: Having my underwear pulled down and exposed as a child to cousins and a man at that time now dead Seeing my mother abused by a neighbor when in Trenton state hospital care Having a towel ripped from me and exposed by a so called uncle beat with switches belts and extension cords Being very nearly sexually violated by an uncle he didn't fully penetrate but said he'd do so later Constant fights among family members Exposed to material no child should see Fed other than human food Kicked and beaten for having incontinence experiences as some young have until they grow out of it or adjust Watching other being beaten Slapped for guessing a family members age Slapped for calling someone ugly Wrestled when I didn't want to and experiencing a leg injury Taken by ambulance for almost choking to death Pitted against one another to fight The list goes on... When everything should have been done, Nothing was but I had to deal with my own taken for stating the truth about what was happening to me as an adult in my home and what I saw happen to my own. I've awakened to body hairs that weren't mine and too many other unbelievable things to list. The reality is I believe it's time to reform the DCF system tearing it down brick by brick and replacing it with parents and citizens that don't focus on the monetary aspect but caring for our children and keeping them in their homes if possible or using DCF funds to purchase homes and townhomes, as a personal space not shared community spaces, where the youth and caring family members can move into to keep the bond of family strong. You may see this as an action in the legal system soon. I am finally dealing with what was done to me in my past and the atrocities I experienced until this day which includes things I've seen and experienced including in the state and county which involves some of the same or similar atrocities in my home to myself and child. Not another day will go by that I don't speak up about this type of assault. It was hard at first to deal with the memories but I am ready to acknowledge them and have sought counseling. Please be mindful of trafficking in these hotels and those that take over 40 years to share their stories. It's done in home, apartments and private rental units. It spans age, culture and gender. Thank you for moving to make our communities safer by rising us away from traffickers and those causing our children the real harm!
