Resources Survivor Q & AThank you for trusting us with this emotional question. Of course survivors of violence and abuse can be loved. You are absolutely worthy and deserving of love, care, and healthy relationships.
Experiencing violence or abuse does not define you or diminish your value as a person in any way. While trauma can certainly impact how we view ourselves and interact with others, it does not make us unlovable or less deserving of compassion and affection.
Many survivors go on to have fulfilling, loving relationships. Healing is a journey, and it's okay if it takes time to feel comfortable with intimacy or trust again. Working with a trauma-informed therapist can be very helpful in processing your experiences and rebuilding a positive sense of self.
It's important to remember that the violence you experienced was not your fault. You did nothing to deserve it, and it does not reflect on your character or worth. You are a whole person, deserving of respect, kindness, and love - both from others and from yourself.
If you're struggling with feelings of being unlovable, please know that this is a common reaction to trauma, but it isn't the truth. You have inherent worth that no one can take away. Connecting with support groups for survivors can also be beneficial, as it allows you to share experiences with others who understand.
Remember, healing is possible, and you deserve to be treated with love and respect in all your relationships. Be patient and compassionate with yourself as you navigate this journey. You are lovable and deserve all that is good in this world. You are not alone.
